Planning the Ceremony

Initial contact

When you first contact me to enquire about a Naming Ceremony for your child, I'll tell you a bit about myself and the ceremonies I do, and you can ask me any questions.  We can chat about the sort of  ceremony you'd like, and any ideas you've got.  If you want to talk to me some more, we can organise a video call, which often feels a bit more personal.

If you decide that you'd like to go ahead, I'll take some details about you and your child, and we can discuss some options for the ceremony. I'll then arrange to come and meet you.

Planning meeting

This is when I will gather most of the information I need to create your ceremony.  I always like to meet the child if possible, so I get a first hand idea of what they're like.  But I'll want to know all about them - what they like, what they don't, what makes them laugh, what sort of personality they are.  I'll ask you about their birth and about other members of the family, hopefully also meeting any broths and sisters.  We can talk together about what you want the ceremony to be like, and who you want to involve.

We'll also talk about you as parents, and your hopes and wishes for your little one.  We can think about possible readings, about any music you want to include, and about any activities you want to include so that other people take part.

By the time I leave, I'll hopefully have a really good sense of you as a family, and what you want to happen on this special day.

Writing

I will then write a first draft of the naming ceremony, and send it to you.  Between us, we can make changes, add things - anything needed to make it perfect.  If you want any help with promises to be made to your child, I can do that.  By the time we finish, we'll have a ceremony full of fun and special moments, that's exactly right for your child and you.

The ceremony

On the day, I will arrive at the venue early to make sure everything is ok.  As soon as everyone is ready, we'll start the ceremony, and I'll make sure it flows smoothly, and is just what you want.

Afterwards

After the ceremony, I’ll give you a copy of the entire ceremony script so that you have that to keep.  For many families, this becomes a treasured keepsake.  I’ll also provide you with a pdf copy so that you can send it digitally to anyone who perhaps couldn’t attend.
